And for those fans, there's now the iPhone 13 Pro Max or even the iPhone 12 Pro Max if you can find it. If you want to save some money, we’d suggest checking out the iPhone 11 - while we constantly found little nuggets of impressive performance throughout our testing of the 11 Pro Max, we couldn't shake the feeling that this is really only a phone for the Apple fan who wants the best of everything, with no compromises. However, when thinking about what’s truly new here, we weren’t able to single out much beyond the improved camera (especially Night mode) and the slightly upgraded cinematic experience. Overall, the iPhone 11 Pro Max is a real step forward, and was the most advanced iPhone at the time. The raw performance of the iPhone 11 Pro Max also impressed, although we did encounter some slowdown in the camera app however, if you're looking to edit video on the go (and don’t forget this phone can shoot 4K at 60 frames per second, and do it well) then you’ll enjoy the extra grunt on offer. With iOS 13 on board - and now an update to iOS 15 - the Pro Max feels more refined than previous models, and tweaks to the accuracy and range of Face ID make it simpler to use every day, with things like opening a notification when the phone is placed flat on a desk made much easier. In day-to-day use we found that this is just about a 24-hour smartphone (assuming you sleep for a portion of that time), and the fast charger that (finally) comes in the box gives you around 20% in 15 minutes, and a full charge in just an hour and a half. The M2 Max Mac Studio offers a nice combination of price and performance.Apple promises that the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s battery will last five hours longer than the XS Max from the previous year, and that claim is borne out in our tests - it particularly excelled when playing back HDR video on the phone, and the 20-hour battery life for multimedia seems accurate. If you don’t need such slots, you can opt for an M2 Ultra Mac Studio. The M2 Ultra is in the Mac Pro, which has PCIe expansion slots. The M2 Ultra is a beast of a chip, blazing in both CPU and GPU performance. The M3 Ultra has not been released, so the Mac Studio and Mac Pro still use the M2 Ultra. The M3 Pro and Max were also released in the MacBook Pro, replacing the M2 Pro and Max in those laptops. The latest M-Series chip is the M3, which was released with the new iMac and the MacBook Pro in the fall of 2023. Apple then modifies it to create higher-end versions. With Apple’s M-series of chips for the Mac, the company’s release schedule involves the base version in the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac. Read about how Apple’s M1 and M2 processors compare to Intel in our Mac processor guide. You’ll need to set the font size and browser view to the default to see all the chart labels. If you’re not seeing all the bar chart labels, it may be because your browser font is set larger than the default, or your browser is zoomed in. And the difference between the $399 iPhone SE and the $899 iPhone 14 isn’t as huge as their price difference indicates. But there are still some fascinating results: owners of the iPad Pro can say their tablet is about as fast as a MacBook Air and that wouldn’t be much of a reach. It’s a somewhat predictable chart, with the fastest Mac chips at the top, followed by a mix of iPads and iPhones. If you’re looking for scores of chips that are no longer being used in Apple’s active iPhone or iPad lineups (such as the A12 Bionic), check out the Geekbench Browser. The Mac section below includes all of the chips, from the M1 to the current chip. In the above chart, we’ve only included chips that are in Apple’s current product lineups for the sake of keeping the chart manageable. Before we get into the individual processors, let’s let the chips fall where they may.
